Britannica Webshare
This is pretty awesome. The Brittancia Encyclopedia has always been a great source of information for stuff on life, the universe, and everything, but it’s always been pretty pricey too. The 32 voulme set will cost you $1400 and online access costs $70 a year. But no more. If you are a “web publisher” you can get unrestricted access to Britannica’s repository of knowledge for free.
Brittanica’s definition of “web publisher” is a little vague but they said “web publishers” are people who publish with some regularity on the Internet, be they bloggers, webmasters, or writers. They went on to say that they reserve the right to deny anyone access at anytime. So basically when you sign up, you give them an URL for your blog, they review it, and decide if you get in or not.
This idea is pretty sweet and a good step for a company who is slowly becoming obsolete thanks to Wikipedia and the Internet in general. I am pretty excited about this and I intend on signing up.
